Summary, etc. El autor estudia cuándo y cómo el niño adquiere el lenguaje y qué puede faciliar este aprendizaje. Señala que el lenguaje se aprende usándolo y que, como elemento central para un uso, se encuentra lo que denomina "formatos" o interacciones de tipo script entre la madre y el niño. Su tesis es lo que sucede en juegos rudimentarios puede decir mucho sobre cómo el niño aprende a usar el lenguaje. Y, por ello, la investigación se centra en el escenario propio del niño para aprender: el "ajetreo de la vida en el hogar". Postula la existencia de un sistema de apoyo de la adquisición del lenguaje que estructura las interacciones niño-adulto de tal modo que el primero acceda a un aprendizaje ordenado del lenguaje. Y muestra que tal sistema no sólo ayuda al niño a aprender "cómo decir las cosas", sino que también le ayuda a distinguir lo que es obligatorio y valorado entre aquellos a quienes lo dice.
