| Summary, etc. | Los verdaderos cuentistas venezolanos comienzan con los modernistas. El primero de ellos es Manuel Díaz Rodríguez, con quien se inician otros escritores bien asentados en el positivismo, hombres de las nuevas ciencias como la sociología y la psicología. Ellos son: Pedro E. Coll, Rufino B. Fombona y Luis M. Urbaneja Achelpohl. Estos hombres nacidos entre los últimos días del siglo XIX y iniciación del siglo XX establecen las bases del cuento venezolano. Entre 1884 y 1890 aparecen otros cuatro: Rómulo Gallegos, Julio Rosales, José R. Pocaterra y Leoncio Martínez. Gallegos es uno de los más importantes entre los escritores contemporáneos. Rosales, mesurado escritor. Martínez sostuvo la forma del criollismo. Pocaterra irrumpió en la novela bajo el signo de la lucha política e hizo uso frecuente de sarcasmo y caricatura. |
