In Part Two, the authors ilustrate their approach by describing in detail various extracts of English, mantaining a balance between spoken and written materials.
In the Part One, after giving a general idea of what Stylistics involves, the authors outline a set of tecniques for describing any pieces of language, and the various theoretical concepts which are needed to classify the the varieties of language into types. English is used as the language of exemplification, but the same techniques and procedures can be used for the stylistic analysis of other languages.
