The CALLA Handbook : Implementing the Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach. - New York : Addison-Wesley, 1994. - 340 p. : il.

The Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach (CALLA) is an instructional model that was developed to meet the academic needs of students learning English as a second language in American schools. The author's goals in writing this book are to provide a foundation for using the CALLA, practical guidelines for designing a CALLA program, and suggestions for implementing CALLA in major subject areas of the curriculum. Part One of the book provides a rationale for CALLA. Part Two provides information about CALLA program design, including planning, assesment, and administration. Part Three focuses on implementation of CALLA, with a separate chapter devoted to applications of CALLA in each of the four major content subjects (science, mathematics, social studies, and language arts).
