This work is a guide for people with little or no teaching experience about the nature and place of pronunciation in English language teaching. It provides detailed advice on how to deal with the problems of vowels, consonants, rhythm and intonation, pronunciation placed in context within English language teaching to ensure a balance is struck between emphasising it and neglecting it. Intelligibility, accuracy and fluency are dealt with in some detail, and, throughout, care is taken to building up confidence of teachers approaching this aspect of their work.
