Henry V was first produced in the summer of 1599. In this play Shakespeare attemps to bring this legend to the stage. His Henry is an ideal -and perhaps an idealized- king. He possesses all those qualities which in earlier history plays Shakespeare had shown to be the necessary equipment of the strong and virtuous ruler.
