At the chalkface is an accesible and practical guide to theory and practice language teaching. It comprises edited articles from the British Council's respected Newsletter, produced in Portugal for secondary-school teachers of English, with other articles newly commissioned. -- There are four sections: a) Achievement testing, with actual test material for elementary, intermediate and advanced levels; b) Oral lessons; including articles on the presentation, practice and production stages; c) The listening, reading and writing skills; d) Other areas including vocabulary, homework, choosing a textbook.
