Summary, etc. Este libro es uno de los productos del Programa Nacional de Enseñanza Media, PNEM, que se lleva a cabo en el Área Educación y Sociedad del Programa Buenos Aires de la FLACSO. Se ocupa de las funciones sociales de los sistemas educativos, procurando encontrar categorías de validez universal para el análisis de esas funciones en los casos nacionales en cada momento histórico. La autora demuestra que el sistema educativo argentino discrimina socialmente porque, estructuralmente, está organizado para ello. Esta discriminación no se debe a la mera existencia del sistema educativo sino a tres características estructurales: la segmentación, la desarticulación y la subsidiarización.
